Amazon Title Optimization: Formulas That Convert

July 4, 2026 · 7 min read

Your product title is the most valuable real estate on your Amazon listing. It influences search ranking (30-40% of relevance score), click-through rate, and conversion. A great title can double your traffic. A bad one can kill a quality product.

We analyzed 5,000 top-10 product titles across 12 categories and reverse-engineered the formulas that consistently rank and convert.

1. The Proven Title Formula

[Brand] + [Core Keyword] + [Key Feature/Size] + [Key Benefit] + [Material/Color] + [Quantity]

Example: Ylishi Cool-Max Seamless Bras for Women - Full Coverage Wireless Push Up Bra - Moisture Wicking Sports Bras - Pack of 2 (Black, Medium)

This structure works because it puts the most important search term first, follows with distinguishing features, and ends with specific variations that help shoppers confirm fit.

2. Front-Load the Winner

Amazon truncates titles after 120-150 characters on mobile and search results. The first 80 characters are by far the most important. Don't waste them on brand names nobody searches for.

Worst practice: "YlishiLingerieStore 42C Big Cup Full Coverage Push Up Bra for Women..." — brand-first wastes prime real estate.

Best practice: "Women's Full Coverage Push Up Bra - 42C Big Cup Wireless Lace Bra for Plus Size Women - Ylishi..." — keyword-first, brand at the end.

3. Category-Specific Rules

Apparel (200 characters): Must include size, material, fit type, and gender. Example: "Women's High Waisted Yoga Leggings - Tummy Control Workout Pants with Pockets - 4-Way Stretch Breathable Fabric (Black, Medium)".

Electronics (200 characters): Include model number, specs (size, resolution, capacity), compatibility. Example: "Wireless Earbuds Bluetooth 5.3 - 48H Playtime IPX7 Waterproof Sports Headphones with Noise Canceling Mic".

Home & Kitchen (200 characters): Material, dimensions, use case, key features. Example: "Stainless Steel French Press Coffee Maker 34oz - 8 Cup Insulated Coffee Press with 4-Level Filtration System".

4. What NOT to Put in Your Title

5. A/B Testing Your Title

Amazon's Manage Your Experiments lets you A/B test titles. But the test takes 4-8 weeks and only measures clicks, not conversions. We recommend:

Test 1 (Ranking): Put the highest-volume keyword first. Monitor organic ranking for that keyword over 2 weeks.

Test 2 (Conversion): Put the most descriptive phrase first. Monitor conversion rate over 2 weeks.

The winning title usually combines elements from both tests. Don't change your title more than once per month — frequent changes confuse Amazon's ranking algorithm.
