EPR & GPSR Compliance for Amazon EU Sellers

Published July 27, 2026 · 9 min read
TL;DR: EPR applies to packaging, electronics, batteries, and textiles. GPSR requires an EU Responsible Person for every product. Non-compliance = Amazon block + fines up to €300,000. Start registration 8-12 weeks before selling.

What is EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility)?

EPR requires sellers to take financial responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their products — from production to disposal and recycling. Each EU country has its own EPR scheme. If you sell into Germany, France, Italy, Spain, or Sweden, you likely need EPR registration.

Germany LUCID Registration

Germany requires all sellers to register with the LUCID packaging register (Verpackungsgesetz). Steps: (1) Register at lucid.de (free), (2) Contract a recycling scheme (e.g., Interseroh, Reclay — €50-200/year), (3) Submit packaging volumes by March 15 each year.

What is GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation)?

Effective December 2024, GPSR requires every consumer product sold in the EU to have an EU Responsible Person — an entity established in the EU that can be contacted about product safety issues. This applies to ALL non-food consumer products, including clothing, accessories, and electronics.
